Ever since we have been back from Christmas break, all the 6th graders talk about now is how excited/nervous/anxious/happy/terrified they are about going to the middle school next year. The 6th grade teachers have been working really hard trying to prepare them for what's to come. Some of the discussions we have been having are: having A LOT more teachers than just one, having shorter class periods, having different schedules/classes after each semester, having more homework, being more independent/responsible, having more freedom, and of course, how to get into their lockers. Today, my 6th graders practiced opening locks so that they will be ready for their own lockers come Fall. At first, this concept was a bit tricky to understand, but once they learned the pattern and practiced it a couple times, they quickly became expert locksmiths. ;-)
