As an extension to our beginning of the year geometry unit 4th graders were able to participate in a hands on exploration of triangles. Because these students have a basic understanding that triangles are shapes with 3 sides, they were then able to build upon that already formed knowledge. They discussed, observed, measured, and grouped triangles based on their characteristics. Within their partnerships students had fantastic discussions about side lengths as well as types angles within the shape. Natalie Castro even said that her favorite part of the day was "getting out the shapes and talking about triangles!" 4th graders in Mrs. Anderson's class loved getting "to the point" with triangles!
