The Road to Revolution

5th grade has been studying, "The Road to Revolution."  As part of this study, we began enacting the acts, starting with the Stamp Act. We discussed the reasons King George enacted the acts and did a simulation in which every piece of paper required a stamp.  Students had to pay for and attach stamps to every paper they turned in.  One morning some students came to school with protest signs against the stamp act! It was quite fun to see them so invested in this activity and their understanding of the difficulties it may have caused the colonists.

We have been having a great time in PE. We’ve been focusing on throwing skills, Rhythm and the importance of team work. We have had a blast playing star wars dodgeball (always a favorite game) we worked on rhythm and movement by doing a drums alive type activity. And a fun game of jungle cruise that emphasizes the importance of team work. I really try to make PE a fun class with an activity that the kids enjoy, laugh and have fun doing without really realizing they’re learning an important skill and exercising at the same time.

Mr. Haslam’s class has been working on a Martin Luther King writing and art assignment. The kids got to learn about all of the great things Dr. King taught us. Then the kids got to write about what they have learned and then they got to do and art assignment of Dr. King. This has been Mr. Haslam’s favorite assignments he has been able to teach.

Thank you to our lunch staff

Meadow Brook Elementary has a group of dedicated, hardworking, thoughtful, heroes who do not wear capes. These heroes give students what they need on a daily basis. We are so appreciative of our incredible lunch working staff. Thank you for all you do and for the love you put into the work on a daily basis. Thank you for giving everything you have on days you are understaffed. It does not go unnoticed.
