Learning in Speech

This month our speech therapists have been doing group lessons in the kindergarten classes! Each week they focus on a different sound by teaching the students how to say the sound in isolation and how to listen for that sound in all positions of words! 

This week the focus has been on the /SH/ sound. Every class practiced the sound as a whole group and each student had a chance to come up and fish for a word that had an SH sound! 

So much fun!

Elevate Yearbook Contest

The process of compiling the yearbook starts long before the end of the school year. Each year, the yearbook cover is designed by a talented student. Students who want to participate submit artwork inspired by our theme for the year to our Yearbook Cover Contest. 

This year's entries were voted on by staff and our student council. We received dozens of entries from students who put great effort into their work. It was fun to see how each one visually interpreted our theme "Elevate" in unique and colorful ways.

The Singing Sound

Now that all of our kindergarteners have been screened for speech sound errors and we have collaborated with their teachers, we have begun kinder "group lessons!" In these lessons that we lead in each of our kindergarten classes, we review a commonly missed sound from the screenings and teach each student how to articulate it. Each student gets to participate in a game where they practice saying a word with the target sound as well. This week, we taught the "singing sound" or L. Our kindergarteners are so bright and picked this up quickly! Way to go, kinder!!
