Using movement to demonstrate meaning and emotion, students were introduced to the world of dance with the help of the Ballet West company from Salt Lake City. During their engagement at Meadow Brook, students were invited to join the dancers in their warm-ups, learning intricate spins and jumps to practice and exercise. In their performance of Sleeping Beauty, the ballet dancers used the whimsical music of Tchaikovsky’s waltz to showcase in grand costume the story of fairies, a cursed princess, an evil king, frisky kitties, and the power of an awakening kiss from a handsome prince. Bringing the story to life with fun and fanfare, Ballet West shared the beautiful art of dance with expressive gesture and grace! To complement their performance, students reflected their thanks in words and drawings, depicting their favorite and most memorable moments of the assembly.
