Our Own Local Artists
As part of our Social Studies Unit on Folktales, legends and local authors and artists, First Graders became local artist today. After looking at the pictures of some of the sculptures by Gary Price around the town of Springville, the students were given the opportunity to create their own unique pieces. Some students chose to sculpt their own statues and some choose to paint their own watercolor pictures. They were also able to define what 'local' means. What a great group of artist!
Exploring Habitats
2nd grade had a habitat day where they got to "explore" the different habitats. They learned about the polar regions, the desert, the wetlands, the grasslands, the mountainlands and the ocean. These exploring second graders learned about plants and animals that live in each habitat. Soon each student will become an expert on one of these animals and their habitat.
Kindergartners Unlocked Some Fun
Mrs. Berns, the school's technology specialist, visited Kindergarten today and taught the students how to do a "breakout" session. In these sessions, the students must think critically and work together to solve problems and open locks. If the students successfully open all the locks, then they "break out" and win. The students loved the lesson and are excited to try another breakout session soon.
Trying Something New in Music
In December, students got to play different songs with the hand bells.
