Silly slippers and socks are a fun way to celebrate great classroom behavior! We love having anything cozy to keep us learning in kindergarten! ❤️

The Special Education Team at Meadow Brook includes teachers and technicians from the preschool classroom, accommodated core class, and resource classroom. We collaborate closely with related service providers, such as speech pathologists, a school psychologist, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. Our team also works hand in hand with the principal, counselors, facilitators, and classroom teachers. In many ways, the Special Education Team involves nearly everyone at Meadow Brook!
We are committed to delivering specialized instruction and fostering an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their abilities, can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

In kindergarten, we've been learning about farms and how they provide us with much of our food, from animals and crops. We've also had the chance to welcome a couple of special guests who shared why farms are so important!

Our school has been open for nine wonderful years, and we have nine years' worth of gratitude to share! We've condensed it into nine big things we're especially thankful for. As we head into Thanksgiving Break, we feel so fortunate to work alongside you and your children every day. We truly love and appreciate each one of you. We hope your break is filled with food, family, and gratitude—we know ours will be! See you on Monday, December 2nd! 🦃💚💙

Both of Mrs. Neilson's kindergarten classes had a blast learning about forces of motion with Discovery Gateway!

Kindergarten was thrilled to participate in a presentation by the Discovery Gateway Museum! We explored push and pull motions and tested them out with exciting, hands-on experiments!

Our preschoolers are excitedly preparing for Thanksgiving! We’ve been exploring the foods we might enjoy, sharing our favorites and not-so-favorites, and reflecting on everything we’re grateful for.

We had our first fourth grade field trip on today! Our students went to UVU to attend GIS Day (Geographical Information Systems). At this event we learned more about how to use and decode maps. We also discovered why and how maps are made. UVU treated us with popcorn and cake!

In 2nd grade, we’ve had so much fun learning about Greek mythology, and now we’re creating our very own Greek myths!

The fifth grade Student Council has been working hard to prepare for Thankful Grams sales next week, November 18th-22nd! Thankful Grams will be sold for $0.25 each near the lunchroom before school and during lunch. If you're sending one to a classmate or friend, please remember their teacher's name to ensure it’s delivered to the right place. This is a wonderful way to show appreciation to classmates, teachers, and staff for everything they do to make our school a great place!

Our class was so excited to hear from a veteran on Veteran’s Day! We learned a lot and we talked about how our military protect democracy. We also just learned about Athens being the birthplace of democracy. We learned about Alexander the Great and he was our veterans favorite historical leader!

In speech, we've been working hard on learning the different story grammar elements! It's important to know the six key parts of a story: character, setting, problem, feeling, action, and ending. We read short stories and pause each time we recognize an important part of the story. To help us remember, we use popsicle sticks labeled with each story element, marking where we've discussed them in the story. We've been learning so much in speech!

Today, we were honored to have veterans from our community and our own school share with our students. We are deeply grateful to all who have served to protect our country’s freedoms. Happy Veterans Day to our Meadow Brook family! 🇺🇸

🍁 This week in preschool, we’re diving into fall with first letter sounds and everything autumn! In small groups, we’re focusing on recognizing and matching uppercase and lowercase letters. 🍁

In 4th grade, we just started our poetry unit, and we LOVE it so far! We have been learning new terms, or “poetic devices,” to help us write our own poems! We have also been reading works by various poets, including Roald Dahl, Harryette Mullen, and Norman Ault.

Every year, 4th-grade students participate in a Storm Drain presentation by the Utah Storm Water Coalition. This presentation teaches students where our drinking water comes from (rainwater that flows into storm drains) and how to protect and keep it clean. We learned about various "villains" that pollute our water and discussed ways to prevent contamination. Some ideas include cleaning up grass clippings, fertilizer, animal waste, and oil or gas spills before they enter the drain.
This interactive presentation engaged all of our students and empowered them to take pride in their community! We encourage everyone to follow the Storm Drain Motto: "Don't Pollute! Only Rain in the Drain."

We LOVE Halloween! Seeing our students and faculty members dressed up in costume kept smiles on our faces all day long. We hope everyone had a safe, spooky Halloween- now for a weekend full of family, snacking on candy and (hopefully) naps!

This month in art, we read the book There's a Nightmare in My Closet by Mercer Mayer. After finishing the book, we created our own nightmares in closets and colored them in with colored pencils. We are loving spooky season! 👻

Last week, Jaker's Pumpkin Patch graciously donated a pumpkin to each student here at Meadow Brook Elementary! The students were so excited to take their pumpkins home and show them to their friends and family. What a fun way to celebrate the autumn season! Thank you, Jaker's! Here is Mrs. Greenhalgh's class showing off their pumpkins!

This year, Meadow Brook achieved an impressive milestone by increasing literacy proficiency by 8%! This growth is a testament to the dedication of our students, teachers, and staff, who have worked tirelessly to create an engaging and supportive learning environment. Through targeted interventions, increased reading time, and strong Tier 1 instruction, we've focused on meeting the diverse needs of our learners. Teachers have integrated new literacy strategies across all subjects, and students have embraced the opportunity to strengthen their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. This 8% increase not only reflects the hard work put in by everyone but also sets the stage for even greater academic success in the future. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to continuing our journey toward academic excellence.
