First and Fourth Grade Buddies

Every Thursday, Mrs. Hancock's 4th graders visit their buddies in Miss Packard's 1st grade class. It's definitely a highlight of the week! Students take turns reading stories to and with each other, and they also enjoy just getting to know one another. We're already looking forward to next Thursday!

Submitted by lena.bird on Mon, 01/30/2017 - 13:59

For February, Meadow Brook students will be learning about Habit 6: Synergyze.  This habit teaches the students the importance of getting along with others and working in groups.  The students will learn if they work as a team, they can get more done and come up with better solutions than they could alone.  Synergy is a valuable habit that can be used in many aspects of our lives: the home, school, community, workplace, teams, and clubs, to name a few.  If you would like to encourage Habit 6 in the home you can organize, plan, and implement a family service project.  You can also work as a

Let's Eat Some Dirt

Submitted by lena.bird on Tue, 01/24/2017 - 16:05

4th grade just wrapped up their science unit on soil. We reviewed by making an edible soil profile, complete with 3 layers of soil (bedrock, subsoil, and topsoil) and different things you'd find in the layers. Plants and roots help slow erosion, and creatures like worms add to the organic material that gives topsoil its rich nutrients. We had a blast, and the kids loved "eating dirt!"

After learning about heat transfer, seasonal change, and the long-term effects of decreasing temperature on plant and animal life, sixth graders at Meadow Brook Elementary were ready to put their knowledge to good use. They boarded space ships at the Christa McAuliffe Space Center and were soon on their way to save the Enooks, an alien race on a distant planet. It took a lot of teamwork, quick thinking, and precise communication, but the students were finally able to complete their mission and return to earth. “This was one of my favorite field trips ever!
