2nd Grade Book Tasting

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

Second grade was able to have a small “restaurant” experience during their first ever book tasting! Students got to “taste” different kind of books to see what they would like best to read during their read to self time! At the end they were able to pick their 5 favorite “tastes”! Ask your 2nd grader what their favorite taste was!

Escape Room: Context Clues Save the Day

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

Mrs. James's class did an escape room activity. It was really difficult but overall it was so much fun. First, we had to find our teams using synonyms and antonyms. Then, we got our first clue. Once we figured it out, we gave our teacher the code and she gave us the next clue. All of the clues were about using context to find the meanings of unknown words. The first group to finish found a treasure chest! We loved the escape room and can't wait to do it again.

5th Grade Book Tasting

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

Last Friday we did a fun activity called a book tasting. A book tasting is something where you read a little bit of a book to "taste" it, and see if you would want to read it. We decorated the class like it was a restaurant, we put our books on plates and had a "menu" to rate the books. We switched tables to "taste" every different genre. We had a bell ring when we had to change tables. It also rang when we were to rate the books. Some of the genres included: fantasy, historical fiction, poems, realistic fiction, and many more.
