We had a special motivational visitor come and share her love of writing with our 3rd grade classes. Keri Measom-Francis, a professor in the education department at UVU, and author of the children's book, Christmas Underwear, has a passion for "Creative Notebooks". Our students were so excited to create these notebooks with her! Her visit has inspired us to write about our lives and the things that we cherish and love. To prepare for her visit, we personalized the front of our notebooks and then "tabbed" our books into 4 equal sections. Keri introduced creative notebooks by sharing many of her own and some of the things that she writes about. Together we brainstormed possible titles for each of our "tabs", such as: family, friends, hobbies, gratefulness, animals, places I love, social life, lists, school, my story, etc. The students then chose the four topics they would like to have in their notebooks to write about for the year, and then began their very first entry! Her visit was motivating for our students and we have continued to create notebook entries each day. We are inspired to write about our lives! It's going to be a great year of writing!
