Exciting Writing in First Grade

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

This week in First Grade we have been exploring adding adjectives to make our writing more exciting!  We first began by using adjectives to describe lovable Olaf.  We took a noun, such as his arms, and added adjectives to describe it and make it more colorful, such as brown, short arms.  Then we had the chance to create our own snowman and write sentences with adjectives to describe them to our friends.  We can't wait to see how many adjectives the students use in their writing!

In Kindergarten we learned the importance of being a responsible citizen in all of our different roles which included our homes, communities, and our planet. We used our knowledge to complete a shared partner writing. We loved helping and supporting each other with this task!

Fifth Grade visits State Capitol

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Fifth grade had a fantastic time at the Utah State Capitol this week! They were excited to watch the House of Representatives and Senate vote on new bills. Representative Whyte was able to step out of the voting session to speak with our class for a bit. It was amazing to see our Utah Government at work!

Adventures in Computers

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Computers have been a blast! Kindergarten students have been working hard on their mouse control and how to navigate games on the computer with Teach your Monster to Read. We are beginning our new unit on coding for first through fifth grades. The first and second graders have helped their fuzz buzz get to the finish line in Kodable. The third graders have joined the academy in CodeSpark and are using problem solving skills to code their character to accomplish tasks.

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

29 gloriously wrapped Christmas gifts sat in the back of the classroom for several days. Students got so excited about what the surprise could be. Finally, the day came that each student got to open their gift. Everyone was surprised with full-size skateboards to take home and enjoy!

P.E in the Wintertime

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

P.E. in the winter is so much fun. The Volleyball net comes out and we start to learn the sport. It is my favorite sport and I'm so excited to get the kids rolling on it.

It is also my favorite time of year to teach the kids some basic yoga. It is fun to watch kids try to balance on one foot or try some movements that might never have done before. I follow this lesson with a short guided meditation with affirmations. Helping the kids release any stress they might have.
