Christmas in the Library

Holidays are so fun in the library! In the weeks leading up to Christmas, we enjoyed learning about two famous New York City traditions: the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. We first read Balloons Over Broadway, about the puppeteer who invented the giant balloons in the Macy's parade. We also watched a short compilation video of last year's balloons, and kids loved seeing their favorite characters march across the screen. Then, we read The Carpenter's Gift, a sweet story about the history of the Rockefeller Center tree and how the wood from the tree is used to help needy families after the holidays are over. We were all amazed to find out that over 5 miles of lights are used to light the tree, and that the star on top weighs 900 pounds!
