5th graders participated in Settlers and Indigenous Peoples Day! They got a taste of what it would be like to live in the United States before it officially became a country as they did crafts and activities that Native Americans and European settlers did during that time period. They made homemade butter, pinch pots, yarn dolls, rope, and whirligigs, and they learned how to weave with yarn and a paper plate! We had a great time!
Last week the 3rd graders got to go on a field trip to Bridal Veil Falls on a nature walk! Students got to collect things along the way that were interesting to them. The 3rd graders had a blast and found some pretty awesome stuff!
In 2nd grade we are learning the properties of matter. Sometimes matter is soft, stiff, or water absorbent. Our students were ‘stranded on an island’ and needed to make a hat that could absorb sweat and keep the sun off. But they only had the packaging from their lunch. Paper towels to absorb the sweat. More stuff material for the shade. They did an awesome job!
