First Grade Problem Solving

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

In first grade, we have been learning to use different tools to problem solve math stories to find values, sums, and missing addends.  This week they were so excited to add and color using their math tools.  It was fun to see their confidence and growth, adding numbers together.

Our first makerspace day of the year in Library was so fun! Students used their creativity and brain power building all kinds of structures, coloring and stamping, and of course—reading great books!

Phonological Awareness in Speech

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

This week in speech, we have been focusing on phonological awareness activities! Phonological awareness helps us understand the sound structure of the words we say to help us communicate and also become great readers! We do this by reading stories about the different sounds we make while we talk and communicate! We also work on increasing our phonological awareness by playing games to help discriminate between “long” sounds (like the /S/) and “short” sounds (Like the /D/).

Mustang Club

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

At Meadow Brook we love to celebrate the positive impact our students make every chance we get. As part of our school-wide positive behavior plan students are given “brag notes” or “Principal Mustang Club” notes when they are caught working hard, being kind, being honest, or being responsible. Students can be awarded a “brag note” at any time during the school day by any teacher or staff member.
