Our Own Local Artists

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

As part of our Social Studies Unit on Folktales, legends and local authors and artists, First Graders became local artist today.  After looking at the pictures of some of the sculptures by Gary Price around the town of Springville, the students were given the opportunity to create their own unique pieces.  Some students chose to sculpt their own statues and some choose to paint their own watercolor pictures.  They were also able to define what 'local' means.  What a great group of artist!

Exploring Habitats

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

2nd grade had a habitat day where they got to "explore" the different habitats. They learned about the polar regions, the desert, the wetlands, the grasslands, the mountainlands and the ocean. These exploring second graders learned about plants and animals that live in each habitat. Soon each student will become an expert on one of these animals and their habitat.

Kindergartners Unlocked Some Fun

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

Mrs. Berns, the school's technology specialist, visited Kindergarten today and taught the students how to do a "breakout" session. In these sessions, the students must think critically and work together to solve problems and open locks. If the students successfully open all the locks, then they "break out" and win. The students loved the lesson and are excited to try another breakout session soon.

Getting Creative in Computers

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

This month in computers grades 1-3 are learning about pixels and making our own pixel drawings.  We are also learning by combining flat shapes we can create different shapes in our tangram game.  In the next few weeks we will be “teaching our monsters how to read” and exploring SORA an online library.

Goals!

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

Second grade students learned about New Year's resolutions and how to set goals earlier this week! They set goals for what they would like to be able to do in the second half of second grade. Students thought about what they are going to be able to accomplish in reading, math, writing, and what they hope their class will be able to do. We hope you can come down the second grade hall and read some of our goals!

PE Fun

Submitted by sarah.ledingham on

PE has been so much fun! We’ve competed in our annual plank challenge and earned glow in the dark bowling, played grinch tag and done some fun Christmas yoga. The kids, as always have been working hard, having fun and learning new fun skills as well as the importance of staying active. It’s always so much fun to watch the kids play Games, run around and laugh and be surprised at the end of class that they’ve worked up a sweat. Kids are fantastic!
