Letters and Sounds

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Many students at our school are trying very hard to learn their letter names and sounds. One of the most powerful activities I've seen is to be able to sing the alphabet song as the kids point to the letters. Letter names are a foundational skill for all of us. Kids need to be able to anchor sounds they make to a letter that they know the name of.  Singing along as they point to letters helps them to really know their letters on a deep level. As my students have been doing this I've seen great gains, and they've become better readers and writers.

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

This week Mr.Adams students are working hard in the lunchroom. This class is serving food, cleaning the cafeteria, and monitoring the halls. Today they served nachos and helped the 1st - 4th graders clean their tables. We love and appreciate Mr. Adams' class for helping!

PrinciPAL Mustang Club

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Each day, students have the opportunity to earn a slip to be part of the Prinicipal's Mustang Club by being Kind, Honest, Hardworking and Responsible. These slips are lovingly referred to as "Brag Notes" because students get to keep the yellow copy of it and show it to their parents. Once they receive a Brag Note, they come down to the office to choose a number. This number is where their name is written on a whiteboard in the hallway. Once the board fills up, 10 students are randomly chosen to come down to the office and take home a certificate and a book!

Compare and Contrast

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Miss Jacklin's class learned about comparing and contrasting last week. This week her class's goal was to find similarities and differences in their lives. Throughout this week students wrote in their journals what they had in common with others and things that were different! These two students found they wore the same outfit one day!

Brain Breaks

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

In Mrs. Ashman's third grade class we love brain breaks! Brain breaks are a way to take a break from learning and get students' minds to refocus. We get to do brain breaks to get ready for math. Students love to dance, move, and laugh together!

Digital Citizens

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Computers have been fun this year! We took a pledge to be good Digital Citizens by signing our name on a leaf which will be displayed on the tree in the classroom. The first through third grades pledged to feel with our heart, to stand up with our legs, to listen to our gut, make good tracks with our feet, to balance with our arms, and to think with our heart. The fourth and fifth graders pledged to ask these three questions before posting online. Is it true? Is it kind? Is it you? This year is going to be amazing!

Fourth grade Fun

Submitted by megan.oropeza on

Each Friday fourth graders have a chance to earn a Fun Friday activity. They earn this by turning in their homework and having their work completed in class. Some of the activities we have already done are chalk, jump rope, basketball, kickball, tag, relay races, board games, and art projects. We look forward to having more fun throughout the year!
