We love telling stories in speech! We work on using the seven story grammar elements (character, setting, problem, feeling, action, conclusion, end feeling) to get all the parts of our story, using correct grammatical sentence structure, making inferences, answering questions about the story, problem solving, learning vocabulary, etc. There are so many things we learn from stories in the speech room!
Mrs. Brockbank, our district music specialist, came in and taught us how to use music when reading out loud. We practiced dynamics, pitch and tempo. These are great skills to help us with our oral reading fluency. It was so fun!
This week the fourth graders had the opportunity to learn more about the history of the Native Americans and how they have helped shape the way we live today. We had some amazing presenters, and one of them was a student who attends Meadow Brook. She shared part of her heritage by showing the students a cultural dance. At the end of the presentation, the students were able to learn a song using hand speak. This is a way Native American tribes communicated when they didn’t speak the same language.
3rd Grade hits the Provo River Trail! The weather was perfect and the views were beautiful! We had so much fun on our field trip in the canyon. What an awesome experience! We loved collecting things along our way to share with the class back at the school. There were many pine cones, fall leaves, and interesting rocks found. A few bugs may have also made their way back with us!

Halloween is such a fun time for our students! They loved parading around the school showing off their costumes and the fun parties!
This week we had a great time with a STEM activity in our class. We read the story "Creepy Carrots" by Aaron Reynolds. Jasper, the rabbit in the story, loves carrots and believes that they are out to get him but the carrots really want him to leave them alone.
